ABCmouse Assessment Center
The Assessment Center allows children to take quick tests in several grade levels to assess their aptitude in Math and Literacy skills. If a child needs help in a skill, activities in ABCmouse are instantly assigned to the child to help them improve. The parent is given data on how the child performed that can facilitate further action to help the child along in the learning process. The Assessment Center aimed to be a product families would use on a regular basis, constantly gauging how their children were progressing. Scroll down for case studies.
UX PROCESS
Problem: The Assessment Center had slowly evolved from a simple afterthought of an idea to a significant paid service on top of ABCMouse. It had never benefitted from a rigorous UX analysis. Simple data analysis showed us that user engagement was not where we wanted it to be.
Goal: Follow a human-centered design approach to discover what features required improvements and guide how best to make a friendly and engaging product for the both parent and child. Learn More
COMPLETION SCREEN UI PROCESS
Problem: Many started but never completed the process of taking an assessment, let alone multiple assessments, or reassessing if the child did not do well. Children became distracted easily and lacked motivation to complete the assessments. There was little guidance, for parent or child, as to recommended next steps after taking an assessment.
Goal: To create a Completion Screen that was both colorful and engaging for the child and that showed easy to understand and follow results. Learn More
REPORTING SCREEN UI PROCESS
Problem: Upon completion of an assessment feedback as to how a child did and what they needed to focus on was difficult to understand. Progress was shown in a variety of graphs that added little to the visual communication.
Goal: To make progress reporting more informative and easier to follow at a glance. Learn More
